HAWORTH REPORTS CONTINUED GROWTH
HOLLAND, MI - February 9, 2007 -
With sales at the highest point since 2001, Haworth, Inc. today announced that 2006 sales reached $1.48 billion, up 7 percent from 2005. Haworth experienced solid growth in every geography and built on global resources with especially strong growth and record sales in the Asia Pacific sector.
"We continued to develop momentum in 2006. Together with our dealer network and relationships with the architect and design communities, Haworth members and our leadership team are finding and proving that there is a better way to build interiors," said Franco Bianchi, Haworth President and CEO. "We are also continuing to invest in new sustainable spaces - our own headquarters in Holland, Michigan, as well as showrooms in Washington D.C., Dallas and around the world."
Haworth product highlights during 2006 include:
- Haworth introduced PatternsTM, a product collection designed to span from systems furniture to private offices to architecture, and won the Silver Best of NeoCon award for Furniture Systems.
- Enclose, Compose and ZodyTM are a tremendous success in the market. Zody was launched in Asia and Europe and added to its 6 awards in 2005 by earning the prestigious Industrial Design Excellence Award and Ecolabel certification from Good Environmental Choice Australia in 2006.
- At Orgatec 2006, Haworth began a global launch for Planes - a collection including tables, sideboards, shelves, trolleys, flipcharts and presentation units.
"We have new product offerings that are best-in-class. Haworth saw significant growth in 2006 generated from our new products - solutions that have proven to be successful for both small to medium size businesses and large multi-national organizations," said Bianchi. "During 2006, there was unprecedented pressure on materials and transportation costs. It is a strong reminder of the constant need to improve efficiency and customer focus so that we can continue sustainable growth and profitability. We are proud to enter 2007 with a very strong backlog."
Haworth's investments continue to emphasize sustainability and adaptable workspaces. In 2006, Haworth became the first company in the office furniture industry, and one of the first North American companies, to issue a corporate sustainability report based on guidelines of the Global Reporting Initiative. The report outlines a vision, policies and practices for sustainability. Haworth also broke ground on a headquarters renovation in Holland, Michigan. The building is designed to meet the requirements of United States Green Building Council's LEED-NC (New Construction) GOLD certification. The Haworth flagship showroom in Chicago at the Merchandise Mart won the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) Best Large showroom at NeoCon. Rebuilt from the 2004 IIDA award-winning showroom's adaptable workspace, it is the first showroom to win the award twice using the same platform, truly demonstrating the power of the concept.
"Haworth is evolving - until 1976 we were a little company by a big lake. Then, our systems product developments changed the identity of the company and sparked more than 30 years of growth," said Richard G. Haworth, Chairman of the Board. "Today we are a global company. We have introduced products and the adaptable workspace concept to build our company - setting the stage to be successful for many more years based on our ability to deliver greater value to our customers and business partners."
During 2006, Haworth became the first Official Supplier of the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver, Canada - the company's commitment includes providing furniture, architectural interiors and additional support services for Olympic venue and athletes from all over the world.
Haworth North America also recorded its best safety year in history with a recordable incident rate 50 percent lower than industry averages. Six manufacturing facilities worked more than 500,000 hours without a lost time injury - one facility reached one million hours and another has gone three years without a lost time injury.
"This year, Haworth celebrated the life of the patriarch of the company. Dad was beloved by the members of Haworth and had a profound impact on our company and community," said Haworth. "A couple of his enduring legacies were his passionate devotion to serving customers and continuous learning and we are proud to carry on this tradition."
