Haworth Does Its Bit for the Environment

Crocuses are already in full bloom in January, skiers are waiting in vain for snow, and storm damage has become commonplace. Climatic change is in full swing. While politicians are still fighting, the time to act has long come. At Haworth we have seen the signs. Since the end of 2006, all products are produced according to the DIN EN ISO 14001 environmental management system.

The objective of these extensive certification measures was to identify environmental aspects clearly so that they can be monitored and checked in the factories. For Haworth, sustainability plays a central role. Here, not just the certification of the company itself is important, but also the settlement of the processes in an environmentally sound manner. The health of the customers, quality, reliability, and, not least, the price are always taken into consideration in this context. "We see ourselves obliged to protect and preserve the environment. For this reason, the introduction of the environmental standard was a logical supplement to our quality management system. Within the scope of production according to DIN EN ISO 14001, we demonstrably reduce CO2 emissions. Less packaging and a minimised amount of waste are further measurable aspects of the new reforms. And, not least, we provide for a lower water consumption and energy saving measures," Thorsten Prée, General Manager of Haworth Germany, says.

Zody_System 89 office chair is a particularly good example of the environmentally conscious manner of working at Haworth. Already during manufacturing, up to 51 per cent recycled materials are used. The model is designed for fast disassembly and meets extremely strict criteria in regard to emission values. In addition, 98 per cent of the chair can be recycled and thus does not pollute the environment.
