Wolfgang C. R. Mezger
"Materials that are employed correctly are beautiful", is how Wolfgang C.R. Mezger formulates his declaration of love to the materials of his works.
Mezger has a Dutch and German background. He studied design at the Hochschule für Gestaltung in Schwäbisch Gmünd, which he successfully completed in 1979, receiving the 1980 Braun Prize.
As a freelance designer, he worked with Nick Roericht, among others. He opened his own design studio in Eislingen in 1983 and taught at the design colleges in Berlin, London, and Schwäbisch Gmünd from 1981 to 1989.
C.R. Mezger now works with a small team for top international companies with the highest demands in the United States, Italy, Holland, Belgium, Austria, Switzerland, and Germany.
His designs have made him one of the most sought office furniture designers. Mezger is considered in the industry as someone for the optimum, someone, who is comfortable with the outmost aspects of technology and who is very concerned with quality.
His studio can look back at more than 40 international design awards including Best Of Neocon, Chicago; Good Design Award, Chicago; Roter Punkt and Red Dot, Essen; the Netherlandish Furniture Prize, Amsterdam; Roscoe Design Award, New York; Design Center, Stuttgart.
Wolfgang C.R. Mezger designed three lines for Haworth: tanis, gemini and m_sit, which was awarded with the iF product design award 2006.
