Philips

Industry: Manufacturing
France, Suresnes (Paris)

Client

Philips serves its worldwide markets through three core sectors: Philips Healthcare, Philips Lighting and Philips Consumer Lifestyle. Philips was established in France in 1920, with a nationwide industrial and commercial presence.

Philips has a leading position in most of its activities. The firm employs nearly 5,000 people in France. Its turnover was 3.1 billion Euro in 2007.

Challenge

Philips wanted to gather all its entities together in a single site: the Verdi building in Suresnes (west of Paris).

The comb-shaped building was to be arranged according to a special concept developed by DEGW, with a sober and consistent style and "sustainable modernity".

The requirement was for: pure aesthetics; solidity; ergonomics; easy integration of wiring; workstations with soft angles and integrated filing modules; and certified products.

Application / Scope

The project covered 20,000m2  over four floors, with an installation of 1,300 workstations. This included desks for advisors, managers and executive offices, and certain products were custom made as specials for the client.

Customer story

Haworth offered several types of workstation in a range of soft colours: white for open spaces, light veneer for the private offices, screens and chairs in a beige fabric.

The Haworth layout solution fits the Heights Charter imposed by DEGW, with strict rules for sight and acoustic levels. Three heights were defined:

  • 3rd levels are 120cm from the ground.
  • The cupboards are 150cm tall.
  • Partitions are 270cm tall.

We arranged open spaces with Epure benches (4 areas), equipped with an cable management tower as a central leg. 3rd level screens end in lockers on both sides. Cupboards have a white medium finish. The Interange cupboards are also white.

Advisors' workstations are a special achievement, with a low module offering 3, 4 or 5 filing units adjacent to rectangular Hexagon tables with spider legs. 3rd levels are also made up of lockers.

The managers' private workstations are also special products, with a rectangular worktop laying on a low cupboard on one side and a pedestal on the other side. A mobile, height adjustable Hexagon table serves as a side table.

Executive offices are equipped with a large, oval Hexagon table with spider legs, to which is added a rectangular return table as a worktop. These tables are made of oak linear grain.

All task chairs are System X-88, with a light beige fabric that clearly matches the 3rd levels.
